Our Values & Philosophy

To get the new millennium off to a positive start, in February 2000 our whole California staff retreated to a quiet place in Carmel Valley. Our goal was to create a statement of our vision and our values. During these two days, we identified more than 50 values which we then had to hone down to only those that every one of us could agree upon. Trimming our combined vision down to 12 words or less was another daunting challenge! But we left with heads held high, a Vision Statement and 15 Values that we all share and honor.

Our Philosophy:

When we know ourselves, when we're in touch with the true needs of our body and spirit, then we know what right action to take in our lives to find balance. The first step is Cultivating Relationship with Self. Our company hopes to facilitate this process in each individual by conveying the importance of using only the highest quality products because what we put on our bodies is absorbed into our systems as food for the skin. We believe that lifestyles can be enhanced in simple ways such as up-leveling a routine bath to a bathing ritual -- creating a home spa hydrotherapy treatment! Nourishing ourself, treating ourself kindly and honoring our body; all lead to cultivating a more loving relationship with self and a deeper wisdom for making right choices in our lives.

Herbal-Ease™ Collection

· Our Neck Pillow boxes are 100% recyclable, are made from 70% post consumer recycled content and the ink is water based.

· The Eye Pillow boxes are 100% recyclable made from variable content; ink and coatings are food grade.

· The polar fleece fabric we use for the pillows is composed of 89% post consumer plastic soda bottles.

Aromatherapy Collection

· No synthetic fragrance, artificial dyes or colors; no parabens; no petroleum; no animal testing.

· Glass bottles versus plastic.

· Single note essential oils are certified organic, pesticide free or wild crafted, from suppliers engaging in sustainable farming practices.

Bath Therapy Collection

· Recycled cardboard canisters with metal lids instead of plastic lids or containers.

· Certified organic herbal extracts and pure essential oils.

· No parabens or preservatives, no artificial colors or dyes, no synthetic fragrance, no petroleum, no animal testing.

Ayurveda Collection

· Premier line of certified organic Ayurvedic facial oils.

Massage Oil

· We offer a certified organic massage oil that easily washes out of linens.

Overall Measures We Take to be Environmentally Sensitive

· No secondary packaging (i.e. box for each product) to reduce waste.

· We use shredded paper documents, 100% recycled kraft padding and newsprint paper as well as reuse packing materials and boxes from incoming shipments to pack our outgoing orders.

· We use shipping peanuts from recycled materials or corn, versus Styrofoam.

· Utilize recycled kraft boxes for gift sets.

· All TARA collateral is printed on paper post consumer waste, FSC certified paper using water based inks.

· TARA now offers all collaterals in electronic format on memory sticks made from recyclable materials as a paperless alternative.

· All TARA products are without artificial dyes, synthetic fragrance and petroleum-derived ingredients.

· TARA’s Eco Choice Program denotes all TARA products made with wild-crafted and/or organic ingredients as well as all eco-friendly packaging made with recycled content.

· Purchase clean wind energy in the form of renewable energy credits (RECs) directly contributing to the development of clean power sources and reducing the need for harmful fossil fuels.

· Fees to Funds donates a percentage of the processing fees.
